The Dark Knight Review

                  The Dark Knight 5/5

Perfect is the only world than can used to described this movie. When you have a genius behind the camera and in front, what can you honestly expect besides a masterpiece? For all of those who dislike this movie and rate it below 5, FUCK YOU. Just stop watching movies or only watch ones meant for simpletons, because you obviously don’t appreciate a stroke of genius or maybe you just have bad taste, no debate. I will even say if you don’t describe this movie to your friends as perfect, FUCK YOU. Because you obviously hate your friends and will lie to their face. Honestly I don’t think ever seen something as flawless as the Dark Knight.

Batman Begins Review

                Batman Begins 5/5

To say this is a masterpiece would be an understatement. Not only the single greatest Batman/Comic book adaptation, but I will go as far as to say one the greatest movies ever made. Christopher Nolan creates a world in which Batman truly exist, also in a world that batman is actually needed in. Unlike "Batman" Gotham City actually needs a person to jump rooftop to rooftop, and save the weak form a abusive corrupt capitalist society, that offers no help to the people that need it most. In "Batman" there is approximately a grand total of one dirty cop in your police force, why do you need batman when .1% of your police force is doing their jobs?  In Batman Begins we see the entire mindset of Bruce Wayne be destroyed by vengeance and apathy and then to be built back up by justice and empathy. One of the most important things about Batman Begins is Christian Bale, an actor who gets into the minds of the characters he plays and truly becomes them, which is obvious throughout the entire film. We see Bale play three different characters Bruce Wayne, Batman, and the reflected image of Bruce Wayne, the despicable yuppie that is everything the real Bruce stands against (Apathy). I can honestly say without any doubt that we will never see anything quite like this in a comic book movie again, where a hero is cut wide open for the entire world to see but I his true self is hidden from society, no one will ever really know Bruce Wayne.

Goldfinger Review

             Goldfinger 4/5

While I love this movie for so many reasons, I cant say its the best Bond film. It relied too much on gadgets and technology to awe its audience(the addition of a Laser as a central character) , rather than" Dr. No " and " From Russia with Love".

From Russia with Love Review

         From Russia with Love 5/5

While most people usually cite Goldfinger as their favorite of the Connery Bond films, I will stick with the most underrated entry in the series, "From Russia With Love". The plot was grounded in Cold War reality, Connery was in his prime, the Bond girl though perhaps a step down from Dr. No, was nevertheless in the top tier, and the action especially the fight on the train seemed grounded in the realm of plausibility. For me" From Russia with Love" is the quintessential Bond film.

Dr. No Review

                Dr. No 4.5/5

In order for Dr No to be truly appreciated, you have to see it for what it was when first released, it was a ground-breaking, one-of-a-kind, truly inspired film. Despite any poor special effects or slow cars or lack of gadgets, the greatness of this film lies in its being the first kind of film with an anti-hero as its central character. The plot may be relatively simple and Bond may only be equipped with a Geiger counter and a gun, but this is many peoples' argument for its greatness - Bond is a relatively real spy, unlike any Bond films after, including Goldfinger.

The Killer Review

            The Killer 5/5

No one makes action movies quite like John Woo. "The Killer" is unlike any action movie I've ever seen, it flawlessly combines the elements of both ultra violent action films and gritty crime dramas into one spectacular masterpiece. Every single shoot out is unique from the other and adds its own personal touch to the film. John Woo's over the top approach to action always impresses me and delivers something new each time.

Sunset Boulevard Review

                Sunset Boulevard 5/5

This is such a great film on so many levels I can't really settle on where to begin. It is so beautifully shot and  has a witty, clever and extremely well-written script. This is truly a classic and one of the best movies of cinema history that will never lose its effects on film

Last Picture Show Review

        The Last Picture Show 4.5/5

The slow movement within The Last Picture Show is presented in a true to life manner. Our lives are full of embarrassing, discontinuous episodes. Bogdanovich merely does what Andy Warhol once experimented with, the direction of life as it really appears to us. So while it may be slow moving, it expresses the same concerns that we face daily. How do we know if we will ever find that one person for us?There's something about American culture of the fifties that feels like a dream that's gone. A soda bar, a beautiful blond girl, a remembrance of innocence. This takes everything we'd seen in 50's American cinema and demolishes it. In the Last picture Show we see a different side of 50's America, one that is full of disappointment and heartbreak.

Robocop Review

                Robocop 5/5

When I first saw "Robocop", I was about 8 years old. It was definitely the most violent, and one of the most sophisticated films I'd ever seen. Everything about the film grabbed me on some level. A lot of people seem to really like this film, though I've heard a share of people say that it's a second-rate film due to the extensive violence and sappy dialogue, calling it cartoon-ish. Well, I have to say that the cartoon-ish quality to the film is part of its allure. It's not only a humorous device for the sake of entertainment, but its significance to the story is great. This is a dystopian future where big companies control almost every part of our existence, from the government to the police to our domestic lives. This film has everything going for it. A plot that exists on more levels than its B-movie surface. It's a social commentary, an action film, a sci-fi film, and at times even a comedy. It's a shame that this movie is usually snubbed by shoving it into the "action" category. Sure, there are lot of legendary action sequences to be found, but Robocop is a lot more than that.

Highlander Review

            Highlander 4/5

As far as ridiculous and far-fetched plots go Highlander has the best one. With the power of Freddy Mercury’s voice and the thrusting blade of Connor Macleod “Highlander” is the best “so bad its good” movie of all time

Oldboy Review

          Oldboy 5/5

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a movie as much as this one.The key premise is original, which is rare enough by itself .Like any true masterpiece this movie takes the best of a simple revenge story and turns it into a psychological mind twist. Its unlike any movie I've ever seen before, always throwing you off course with an ending that I still cant believe. To say this is a morbid movie would be an understatement, its core essence is death, it constantly questions your morals and personal views. In Oldboy we see if a man can live or die with sin, if he can forgot the unforgettable.

Fargo Review

              Fargo 4.5/5

Fargo is one of the greatest movies from 90's.The Coen bros. always write such original and entertaining scripts that are so layered and engaging. Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi and William H.Macy all play believable characters yet never trick the audience into believing that the story is real  Fargo is a classic movie that tells a fun, original story with great performances.

The Searchers Review

         The Searchers 5/5

This film is certainly not just for lovers of the western genre - it offers so much more and treats you to the wonders and treasures great film-making has to offer. It is an epic story, a complete watershed in cinema. Often credited as an early study of racism, this is not what lies at the heart of this picture. As well as racism, the films themes include individuality, the American character, and the opposition between civilization and the untamed frontier wilderness. The films sophisticated and dazzling cinematography is extremely striking visually, and captures the harsh nature of the characters surroundings, accentuating its beauty and its isolating and dangerous nature. This is contrasted against the welcoming and homely nature of family life depicted in the film. This is the place Ethan Edwards longs to belong to. However his true home is the dangerous, brutal and unforgiving environment of which he has become akin to as a soldier in the civil war and one which ultimately alienates him beyond being able to re-enter civilized society. He becomes perfect evidence of what happens to an individual in the midst of a great battle when he gives into his own hatred.Films shot so beautifully as the searchers are a joy to watch. Describing this film as a 'motion picture' really is quite appropriate, as you really do feel like the landscapes of monument valley, fords favourite locale, transcend the boundaries of the camera and become a beautiful oil painting come to life that grips and consumes the viewer.
When you consider the vast range of individual scenes that are exemplary in terms of composition and blocking of characters (too many to list here) it is easy to see why so many of the film industries 'new Hollywood' directors such as Spielberg and Scorcese site this as such a cinematic milestone and express the huge impact it has had on both their own work (Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver is almost a modern Ethan Edwards roaming the streets of New York in a taxi, instead of on horseback) and on cinema in the twentieth century as a whole.

Rio Bravo Review

             Rio Bravo 5/5

"Rio Bravo" is a towering classic of American cinema. It's not often where you can find a movie that has all the strengths of a "Hollywood Classic" and none of its flaws. John Wayne plays one of his finest characters I've ever seen and gives a pretty flawless prefromance. Evey moment he's on screen you can just feel the power of his acting. Howard Hawks attention to detail and historical accuracy make this a treat to watch. Every building, costume, and gun looks like it was made in 1800's. Rio Bravo is what can easily be called a perfect movie.

Heat Review

                     Heat 5/5

It's without a doubt the greatest heist/crime movie ever made. I think its almost impossible to not want to become a bank robber after seeing this.  It's urban Gothic style creates such an overwhelming atmosphere its almost a privilege to watch the story unfold. Evey single performance was absolutely phenomenal, Pacino and De Niro were really at the top of there game, not to mention the really subtle acting of Val Kilmer that really completes the movie. It's gritty realism adds to the great atmosphere of the movie that when the final heist scene of the movie occurs you are in absolute awe. Mann has created such a deep film, that I can't express how much it means to me.Heat is a modern masterpiece that deserves every single bit of praise it has received.

Black Christmas Review

                   Black Christmas 4/5

"Black Christmas" is often considered the father of the slasher genre, I couldn't disagree more. I always hear this being compared with "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th" and it couldn't be more of a polar opposite in almost every way. The only element in Black Christmas that's remotely similar to any slasher film is that it has a first person killer, its not gory or violent and not particularly suspenseful, the main elements of a slasher. It does however have an amazing built up to the identity of the killer(who you know nothing about) the only clue the viewer has is a series of perverted phone calls. In the end you never know the identity of the killer, it remains a mystery to both viewer and characters. I could swallow this ending, but it was underdeveloped, you cant help but want more, but no sequel was offered, which the ending hints upon. I would never say its even close to "Halloween" or "My Bloody Valentine", but it does offer a very original ending that will either impress or annoy the hell out of you.

The Last Exorcism Review

                    The Last Exorcism  5/5

The best part about this movie was that it wasn’t overhyped or plastered everywhere as the “scariest movie of all time”. Any expectations I had for this movie were completely blow away. This was the first time shaky cam has been utilized properly and has been an effective tool in scaring the audience.  Ashley Bell who played Nell was so convincing and creepy; you really believe this girl is possessed by the devil.  Another great thing was the lack of special effects; they were only used when absolutely necessary. It basically took the best parts of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist and blended them together, and while it did use things from both these movies it stayed completely original and its own movie. With the bombardment of shaky cam movies over the past 15 years "The Last Exorcism" is the first to truly scare the general audience

Survival of the Dead Review

                                                                 Survival of the Dead 3/5

Ever since 1968, George A. Romero has been filling our minds with gratuitous violence, buckets of gore, and the way we see modern horror. So when I got "Survival of the Dead" I had huge expectations to say the least. Even though his last entry to the "Of the Dead" series was absolutely horrendous (Diary of the Dead). This wasn't quite as bad, but in no way is it in league with any of his other films. The best way to describe this movie is that it's a bitter success. It comes close to being up to par with "Land of the Dead", but fails to escape the terrible production quality of  "Diary of the Dead", which means not so great effects or acting. If you're not a horror purest and are okay with CGI blood than you'll find

Diary of the Dead Review

            Diary of the Dead 2.5/5

Certainly a step down from all of the previous "Of the Dead" movies, and even for a shaky cam movie. It was almost hard to see the downfall of this movie, I will commend Romero for trying something new, but I will crucify him for how bad this made the rest of his movies look.

Land of the Dead Review

               Land of the Dead 4.5/5

After 20 years from making a zombie movie you'd think Romero would have lost his touch, wrong. If anything he improved the campy world of zombies by going completely overboard with the violence and gore, which is a good thing if you ask me. Simon Baker is a moron, but John Lequizamo and Asia Argento make up for his incompetence, by being completely awesome in the ways they bash Zombie's skulls in. George A. Romero has definitely topped himself after a 20 year plus cool down period.

Day of the Dead Review

                   Day of the Dead 5/5

Definitely the weakest in the original trilogy, but still an amazing movie. You can see a lot more connections with modern zombie/horror movies more in this than anything else done pre 90's, with the addition of over the top characters in a setting that really doesn't require them .George Romero creates such a fantastic universe where it seems anything possible that could go wrong does.

Dawn of the Dead Review

                    Dawn of the Dead 5/5

What can one say that hasn't already been said about this powerhouse of American Cinema. Definitely one of the greatest movies of all time. It stayed true to the original and developed its own message that went beyond horror film. Connecting consumerism to zombieism not only made this movie extremely involving but also very scary, to see myself as a Zombie to material possessions scared me more than the apocalypse.

Night of the Living Dead Review

Night of the Living Dead 5/5

A completely flawless movie. When I think of one horror movie that has been influential in some way to almost the entire genre its "Night of the Living Dead". When you watch this movie you cant help but be involved somehow, I always catch myself yelling at the t.v. whenever I pop this movie in. One of the only science fiction/horror movies that's completely grounded and set within a real world where zombies could exist. While it is a Zombie movie it also serves as a great social commentary, like most of Romero's films in the 70's. It's without a doubt the crown jewel of horror films.

City of the Living Dead (The Gates of Hell) Review

City of the Living Dead  4.5/5

Pretty much what you'd expect from Lucio Fulci. Rotted baby corpses, evil demonic priests, and the extra special scene where someone is literally puking their guts out. Whats so important about this movie is that it was the first to connect Zombies to Black Magic (Voodoo). The story is simple containing basically two acts, but it has a sense of bizarreness, that the viewer must throw out all knowledge of critiquing film and in the correct manner in which they are made. Fulici knew exactly what his core audience wanted : Blood  & Guts and he delivers in spades. Don't get me wrong, the movie is well made and has a lot of good in it, its just in a league of it's own as a zombie extravaganza and as a horror film. It almost seemed he skipped all the unnecessary cliche's and stereotypes of horror films and just right to the good stuff. This is the farthest I've ever seen Fulci go with violence and gore. I really liked the story of demonic possession mixed in with zombies and the whole gates of hell gag at the end. This the epitome of Fulici horror.

The Girl Who Played with Fire (Flickan som lekte med elden) Review

The Girl Who Played with Fire  4/5

It's nowhere near the caliber of the first movie, but good in its own respect. Don't get me wrong, this movie is still fairly worth watching, its content basically interesting if you generally like thrillers, but don't expect the rerun of the original in terms of substance of the script and quality film-making in general, because that's not gonna happen, at least not in this movie. Noomi Rapace continues to impress me as the living embodiment of Lisbeth Salander. My only complaint is the lack of Lisbeth in the movie, it seemed more split between Mikael and her instead of Lisbeth being the main character. It has the disadvantage of being a sequel and the 1st part of a 2 part story, but it was a extremely well made film, with great performances from Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist.

True Grit Review

                             True Grit   5/5

Classics come in all shapes and sizes. Some movies only become classics in the passage of time while others are classics instantaneously and "True Grit" is surely one of the those. John Wayne really puts all of his charisma and talent into one role and gave one of his greatest performances that was well deserved of an Oscar. I cant say I've seen every western, but I can definitely say that True Grit has to be my favorite

Piranha (1978) Review

                            Piranha   4.5/5

A fast-paced, campy, and humorous ride all the way, Piranha is a genuinely entertaining B film that recalls not only Jaws but many of the classic monster movies of the 50's. Joe Dante's direction is nicely done, keeping the energetic mood of the film high. The special effects aren't half bad, especially considering the limited budget. In fact the movie packs some truly gory images of half eaten corpses and flash torn faces. It also has one the goriest and most violent bloodbath endings in any horror movie, any movie that has small children getting torn to shreds is a winner in my book. Pretty much the holy grail of camp horror.

Kick-Ass Review

                          Kick-Ass   5/5

I still cant believe how good this movies was. I don't think I've ever been so pleasantly surprised with a movie especially one based of a comic book i love.(dark night based off batman not the comic). Aaron Johnson completely knocked it out of the park as Dave Lizewski, a character almost every comic nerd can relate to. I personally think many will dislike this movie or will just flat out take it as a comedy  based on the fact that they don't read comics or don't understand what they mean to the reader One of the few times where the entire cast works so well with each other, i dint even feel like i was watching a movie, more like an observer in to real life events. This literally puts ever comic book movie to sham(except Christopher Nolan's brainchild aka the dark knight).I don't think I've actually had "fun" in a movie theater until I saw "Kick-Ass".
